Characterization of glass fiber reinforced polymer via Digital Volume Correlation: Investigation of notch sensitivity
نویسندگان
چکیده
The results of in-situ cyclic tensile experiments performed on two dogbone specimens made glass fiber mat reinforced polyester resin are presented (the second specimen contains a machined rectangular notch). experimental data were obtained by using X-ray Computed Tomography. reconstructed volumes analyzed via Digital Volume Correlation. investigated material was notch-insensitive since both failed at equal stress levels. To further confirm this hypothesis, and to study strain–damage interactions, the major eigen strain correlation residual maps analyzed. Even in first loading cycle, an inner strained band extending through whole ligament area developed within specimens, already indicating path final fracture. It is shown that failure studied primarily driven yarn mesostructure, i.e., influence underlying heterogeneities prevailed over effects due machining and/or geometric singularity.

Experimental Investigation of Behavior of Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC)
The paper presents the results of casting and testing of 264 GFRC specimens. The glass fibers were 25 mm long, with the aspect ratio (L/D) ranging between 1250 and 3570. The parameters studied were the ratio (by weight) of fibers to cement, i.e. F/C=0%, 1.5%, 3%, and 4.5%, and the ratio of coarse to fine aggregates (gravel to sand), i.e. G/S=1.1, 0.7 and 0.2. In total, 12 mix designs were selec...

Therefore, there is a need to investigate the wear properties of polymer matrix composite materials. This article emphasizes the dry abrasive wear be...
متن کاملAn Investigation into the Deep Drawing of Fiber-Metal Laminates based on Glass Fiber Reinforced Polypropylene
Abstract Fiber-metal laminates (FMLs) are new type of composite materials which could improve defects of traditional composites in ductility, formability, impact and damage tolerance. Drawing behavior of a thermoplastic based FML was investigated consisting of glass-fiber reinforced polypropylene composite laminate and aluminum AA1200-O as the core and skin layers, respectively. The effects o...
متن کاملEffects of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer on Geotechnical Properties of Clayey Soil
Soil reinforcement can be considered as the combination of two parts. One part is soil for compressive stress capacity and another part is some material such as geosynthetics such as steel belts and fibers for tensile stress capacity. Soil improvement is one of the useful methods to increase the strength parameters of the soil. The main goal of this study is to evaluate the effects of GFRP on t...
